Shirley is a hamlet Suffolk County, New York, United States. The community is named fordeveloper Walter T. Shirley who had a vision in the 1950s to turn the area on Mastic Bay into an affordable enclave. Shirley is a community in the Town of Brookhaven, on the South Shore of Long Island. Most of Shirley, the southern part, is served by the William Floyd School District. The northern part is served by the Longwood Central School District.
Shirley is served by the MasticShirley Long Island Rail Road station which is roughly an hour train ride into New York City's Penn Station. The 7th Precinct of the Suffolk County Police Department is also located in Shirley. Montauk Highway & Williami Floyd Parkway home the commercial life of the area. Three major supermarket chains can be found in the area, King Kullen, Pathmark and Waldbaums. Shirley offers a wide range of outdoor activitings including hiking and canoeing.
